Gosport is a naval town in Hampshire, on the Solent, on the west side of the mouth of Portsmouth harbour. It began as a small fishing port but later developed into an important station for the Royal Navy, and then submarine base; suitably, there is now a submarine museum here. Gosport is popular with tourists, and not just for its maritime history, there are also many forts to visit and a pebble beach, Stokes Bay.
