Folkestone is a town and port on the Kent coast 7 miles west of Dover. It became a port in 1629 and quickly aspired to be one of the Cinque Ports. In the 19th century the town hugely prospered thanks to the arrival of the railway which helped establish Folkestone as a cross-channel port and holiday destination. Folkestone's white cliffs, grassy promenades, fantastic gardens known as "the Leas", an old harbour and bathing beach are amongst many attractions.
The Burlington Hotel - Folkestone, is a superior 3 star hotel that stands in its own grounds.
The Grand has an unrivalled position on the South Coast, directly overlooking the ornamental grounds of the Folkestone Leas cliff tops.
Local attractions include Euro Tunnel, the historic Battle of Britain memorial, Leas Cliff Hall and Bouverie Place for shopping.
