Harrogate is a picturesque town in north Yorkshire, barely 12 miles north of Leeds. It developed as a spa town after the discovery of Tewit Well in the 16th century, subsequently many other springs were discovered and Harrogate became the most fashionable spa in the north of England during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. It still maintains an exceptional degree of refinement and is home to the popular Bettys Tea Rooms, one of the few in the country. Harrogate is also the location of many agricultural shows, music festivals and flower shows, and as a result regards itself as "Englands floral town".
