Ripon is a market town and cathedral city in North Yorkshire 22 miles northwest of York. An abbey was founded here in the 7th century. Ripon has a charismatic market square that is dominated by a 27m/90ft obelisk, and horn blowing Wakeman. Ripon is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Studley Royal Park and Fountains Abbey. Furthermore, Lightwater Valley theme park is close by.
