Haltwhistle is a historic market town on the South Tyne, Northumberland, south of Hadrians Wall and about 14 miles west of Hexham. It is regarded by some as the centre of Britain (when including the Northern Isles and Channel Islands). Haltwhistle dates as far back as Roman times; in 122 AD, the Romans built Hadrian's Wall about one 1 mile north of Haltwhistle and the old Roman road, Stanegate is just a little further to the north, in the centre of some beautiful countryside native to the area.
