Hexham is a market town on the South Tyne in Northumberland, 19 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is situated just to the south of the once imposing, Hadrians Wall. Hexham is dominated by the Abbey founded by the Bishop of York and has some further fantastic examples of architecture in and around the town. Hexham lies in a county much of which is under the protection of Northumberland National Park; furthermore, the nearby Northumberland Coast is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
