Accommodation in Oakham

Oakham is a market town in Rutland, in the Vale of Catmose, just to the east of Rutland Water and about 17 miles east of Leicester. It is the county town of Rutland. It is a historic settlement characterised by the nearby market square where the ancient octagonal buttercross shelters the towns medieval stocks. Further heritage may be regarded amongst an ancient tradition which states that all royal or noble persons that pass through town must present it with a horseshoe - hence the impressive array of such artefacts that now decorate the walls of the aisled hall, virtually all that remains of the 12th century castle.
