Arrival of pandas helps boost Edinburgh hotels

Hotels in Edinburgh have reported a steep rise in inquiries since the arrival of two pandas at the city's zoo.

Animal lovers from up and down the UK have been looking into hotels in the city as they make plans to visit the zoo to see the two pandas called Tian Tian and Yang Guang.

Although the Pandas are already at the Zoo; their official public debut won’t be until the 16th December – it is then that the surge in bookings is likely to take place.

Online searches for accommodation on the site Hotel.com have already risen by 78 per cent in the past 48 hours – which is a massive improvement on this time last week. Most enquiries have also come from Britons.

Kate Hopcraft from Hotels.com said: “Tian Tian and Yang Guang have made headline news this weekend, and it’s great for Edinburgh to see that their arrival is already having an impact on hotel searches in the local area.”

The breeding pandas are the first in the UK for almost twenty years and have already attracted plenty of world-wide interest since they left their home in China. Kate Hopcraft added: “The pandas are expected to lead the staycation travel trend going into 2012”
