Major cities in the UK could see Melia Hotels International come to town

Melia Hotels International look to expand into the UK's cities with their 'personality based hotels'.

Major cities in the UK could soon be seeing the arrival of Spanish hotel group Melia Hotels International as the company looks to expand into key cities up and down the country in the next couple of years.

The firm already has one hotel in London – the four AA star 581 bedroom Melia White House in Regent’s park. The company, which operates 350 hotels worldwide under seven different brands, is also opening another hotel in London next year and has been eyeing up other potential locations.

Romano Campione, the company’s area director of sales and market EMEA said: “Our research shows that Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Dublin all support our strategy for growth among our business and luxury travel.”

Described as ‘personality based hotels’ the new London accommodation due next year will be situated on the Strand and will feature two restaurants, two bars and a 360 degree roof top bar and a screening room.

The group’s vice-president of global marketing, Tony Cortizas said: “Our service culture maintains many of the traditional luxury standards, but it is the employee’s shared world view with the customer that defines it as different and starts to forge this emotional connection. The physical hotel builds on all this – great contemporary design, supreme comfort, thoughtful nods to local culture, and restaurants and bars that establish the hotel as a social epicentre within the destination.”
