Dalbeattie is a town on the Water of Urr near where it joins Solway Firth, barley 13 miles southwest of Dumfries. It was once a busy port during the 19th century, exporting granite across the world form the nearby quarry. The town is still recognisable by its distinctive granite rock but also for the abundance of woodland, particularly on the east side of the town.
