Kirkcaldy is an ancient port and Royal Burgh in Fife, on the North shore of the Firth of Forth, 15 miles north of Edinburgh across the Forth. Kirkcaldy is renowned as ‘the Lang Toun’ originally for its High Street and now for its esplanade, extending 4 miles from the Firth of Forth. The 15 the century Ravenscraig castle is flanked by steps and thought to be the inspiration for the spy thriller ‘The Thirty Nine Steps‘. There is also a Links Market held every April, which is regarded as the longest street fair in Europe.
