Lanark is a market town and Royal Burgh above the River Clyde, South Lanarkshire, and 20 miles southeast of Glasgow. Traditionally, this is where William Wallace married and, after the murder of his wife by the English, Wallace embarked on his revolt which in 1297 saw him attack Lanark’s English garrison. Lanark has a celebrated racecourse, said to be hold the oldest horse racing trophy, and boasts many festivals, including, Whuppity Scourie and Lanimers Festival.
