Carmarthen (‘fort at the fort by the sea’) is a market town in the unitary authority of Carmarthenshire. Carmarthem is positioned at a strategic crossing point on the River Towy and as such the Normans built a castle here. The town was one of the most important in the country during the middle ages, and previously the Romans had built a fort here from where the town name originates. Rich history and stunning surrounding countryside are synonymous with this important welsh town.
